Mayer Construction’s prime focus during the 52-week renovation of this Grade II listed Prime property in Chester Square was to allow the stunning original features to come into their own. By restoring the character and vitality of the entire property, we allowed modern luxury to tell the story of its elegant past.
The house required a full renovation to bring it to a high-end standard. We lowered the existing basement and inserted a new drainage system and delta membrane waterproofing, including underfloor heating. We carried out complex work to retain parts of the rear façade and inserted a new steel frame to support a five-storey lift shaft. To create a new floor with two extra bedrooms, we removed the original roof and constructed a new mansard.
To reach the level of finesse we were seeking for Chester Square, our project managers brought in expert trade specialists. The team worked to maintain, protect and refurbish each detail, from the handrail and iron balustrades on the main staircase to the gold leafing in the cornices.
We completed a high-end fitout throughout the property, which included bespoke joinery in all rooms and matched marble in all en suites, sourced from our partners in Italy. The addition of a spa, sauna, steam room, gym and staff quarters in the basement took Chester Square to a new level of comfort.
